ANNUAL COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING DAYS
Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2004
KBULG's Annual Community Tree Planting Day was held on Saturday 3rd July 2004.
Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2003
The Gribble Creek floodplain was the site for this year's Community Tree Planting Day.
Individuals and teams participated in what turned out to be an extremely successful day with over
2500 trees being planted.
Congratulations to Placer Dome Asia Pacific - Strategic Development and Support Services for
winning the Corporate Challenge with 50 participants. Well done also to the Boulder Scouts for
winning the Community Challenge with 37. The Department of Environment looked a treat in their
homemade gumnut babies outfits and accordingly won the best costume prize.
Special thanks goes to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for preparing the site and laying all the
reticulation, a huge job over many weeks. Our appreciation goes out also to the early birds who
helped out on Saturday morning setting the trees out and others like WMC Resources Community
Participation Team for manning the Registration Desk.
The day would not be possible of course without our sponsors and a big thank you goes out to
Western Power (Greening Challenge), the Minister for Environments Community Conservation grants,
and last but not least the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Thanks also to all of the other teams and individuals who came along and participated during the
day. Your contribution ensured the community of Kalgoorlie-Boulder a better environment and a
better lifestyle.
Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2002
Nearly 300 people came out on a beautiful winter's morning on 8 June 2002 to plant 2000 trees
and shrubs in Centennial Park.
Most of the trees and shrubs were planted in the first hour!
Participants were then encouraged to spread mulch around their trees and seeds were available to
disperse for the latecomers.
The day was very worthwhile both for environmental and social reasons. Community and corporate
groups, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, mining companies, families and individuals joined
together to do their bit for the environment to celebrate Arbor Day and Goldfields Environment
Month.
As part of the day, KBULG organised a Community and Corporate Challenge for local businesses and
community groups. The Boys Brigade won the Community Challenge with the most participants and the
Corporate Challenge was won by WMC Ltd - Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.
Annual Community Tree Planting Day 2001
On a freezing cold winters day in June 2001 nearly 300 participants joined together in planting
2000 native seedlings in a new park near the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport. The area was also
mulched and landscaped and walk paths have been installed to allow residents and visitors to
appreciate the area. The plants are growing really with an 80% success rate.
The Premier, Dr Geoff Gallop, had launched the tree planting day in Kalgoorlie-Boulder a few
days earlier as part of World Environment Day celebrations.
